Getting started
- Install and open the app. Menu & Market needs an iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later.
- Sign in. Choose Sign in with Apple, or Continue with email and type the 6-digit code we send you.
- Create a household, or join one. To start a new one, give it a name and say what to call you. To join someone else’s, choose Join and type the invite code they shared. Each account belongs to one household at a time.
- Try the Siri step. After you set up your household, the app shows what to say to Siri. You can skip it and find it again later in the Household tab under Help, then Siri phrases.
Where things are. The tabs are Groceries, Plan, Recipes, Pantry and Household. Household is where you invite people, find Help, and manage your account.
My List only or Full kitchen. New members start in “My List only”, a simple view of the shared list. Anyone can switch to Full kitchen at any time in Household.
Offline is fine. You can add and check off items without a connection. The app catches up when you are back online. Creating an invite code is the one thing that needs a connection.
Invite your household
- Open the Household tab.
- Tap Create invite code, then Share invite to send it by message or any other way.
- Your family member installs Menu & Market, signs in, chooses Join, and types the code.
A code is 8 letters and numbers, works for one person once, and expires after 7 days. Everyone in the household needs an iPhone or iPad. Everyone sees the same list, pantry, recipes and plan, and sees each other’s names.
To leave a household without deleting your account, open Household, Account, and tap Leave Household. The others keep everything. If you are the only member you can’t leave; delete your account instead (see the FAQ below).
Add groceries with Siri
You say two short things: the phrase, then the item.
- Say “Hey Siri, add to my grocery list with Menu and Market.”
- Siri asks “What should I add to the grocery list?”
- Say the item, for example “milk.”
Siri adds it to your household’s shared list, and everyone sees it. A shorter phrase also works: “Hey Siri, add groceries with Menu and Market.” Siri asks what to add in the same way.
- The first time, Siri asks “Turn on shortcuts with Siri?” Say yes.
- Say “Menu and Market” (the “and” matters). The app’s Home Screen name is “Menu Market”.
- If Siri opens Reminders or Notes instead, make sure you said the whole phrase, including “with Menu and Market”. Phrases like “add milk to Menu and Market” are taken by Siri’s own list feature.
- You can also find Add Grocery Item in the Shortcuts app.
- The app and its Siri phrases are in English.
Menu & Market Plus
Free: the shared grocery list for everyone in your household, add by voice with Siri, your stores and aisles, and recipes (type them in or import from a link, and add ingredients to your list).
Plus: the Pantry (put away what you bought, see what you already have, find recipes that use it) and the Plan (put dinners on the week and shop from the plan).
Price: $9.99 per year, one subscription for the whole household. One person subscribes and everyone in the household gets Plus.
Free month: new subscribers get 1 month free. You’ll see Start free month on the Pantry and Plan tabs. Apple confirms the offer on its own screen before anything starts. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before the month ends, the subscription renews at $9.99 per year. Apple decides who is eligible for a free month; if the offer isn’t shown, you’ve used it before.
If Plus ends (you cancel, or a payment fails): nothing is deleted. Pantry and Plan turn into previews that tell you how many items are saved, and they come back when Plus does.
If the person who subscribed leaves the household or deletes their account, Plus goes with them and the household goes back to the free version. Someone else in the household can subscribe to bring it back.
Menu & Market does not use Apple Family Sharing. The household sharing described here is Menu & Market’s own. We get your subscription status from Apple; payments are handled by Apple, and we never see payment details.
Frequently asked questions
Siri isn’t adding to Menu & Market
First check that you say the whole phrase, with the app name at the end: “Hey Siri, add to my grocery list with Menu and Market.” Say “Menu and Market”, not “Menu Market”. Siri then asks what to add; say the item.
If Siri still doesn’t find the app, reset the connection:
- Open the Shortcuts app, tap Menu Market, then tap the ⓘ (info) button at the top right. A screen called Menu Market Shortcuts opens.
- Turn the Siri switch off.
- Restart your iPhone.
- Go back to the same screen and turn the Siri switch on.
- Open Menu & Market once so it can register its phrases.
- Try the phrase again, saying “with Menu and Market” at the end.
Still stuck? Email support@menuandmarket.com with your iPhone model and iOS version.
Siri asks me to unlock my iPhone first
That is expected. Your list is shared with your household, so Menu & Market asks Siri to require an unlocked phone before it adds anything. Unlock your iPhone when Siri asks, and the item is added.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Apple manages Plus, so cancel with Apple:
- On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name (Apple ID), then Subscriptions.
- Choose Menu & Market Plus and tap Cancel Subscription (or Cancel Free Trial).
Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged. You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for. For a refund, use Apple’s Report a Problem page; Apple decides refunds, not us.
Restore purchases
Signed in again on a new phone, or reinstalled? Use the same Apple Account that subscribed, then tap Restore Purchases in the Household tab, in the Menu & Market Plus card (it shows while your household doesn’t have Plus), or on the Plus screen. Plus then applies to the household you are in now.
How do I delete my account?
- Open the Household tab and scroll to Account.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Read what it says about your household, type DELETE when the screen asks, then confirm with Sign in with Apple, or with the code we email you if you signed in with email.
- If others are in your household, you leave it and your account is deleted. What you added stays for them, no longer linked to your name.
- If you are the last member, the household and everything in it are deleted. The screen tells you this first.
- Cancel Plus separately first if you subscribed (Settings > your name > Subscriptions). Apple keeps billing until you do. If you subscribed, the app reminds you.
- Deleting your account can’t be undone.
Just want to stop using it on one phone? Sign Out (Household, Account) removes the household’s data from that phone and keeps your account. If you can’t open the app, email support@menuandmarket.com from your account’s email address. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
The list isn’t updating on another phone
Check that both phones are online, then open the app on each. Changes made offline upload when the phone reconnects. If the top of the screen says “N saved changes need attention,” tap it to review them, then email us what it shows.
A recipe link won’t import
Some sites block apps. If the app says so, choose Paste Ingredients: copy the ingredient list from the page and paste it in. A Pinterest link won’t work directly; open the pin and copy the recipe site’s own link. PDFs and other files are not supported in this version, and links to local or private addresses are refused. Always check the ingredients on the review screen before you tap Save.
My calendar isn’t showing in Plan
It’s optional. Plan shows your own calendar events beside your meals only if you allow calendar access in the app and pick calendars. You can change this in your iPhone’s Settings. Your calendar stays on your iPhone and Menu & Market never changes your events.
Cooking timers don’t sound
Cooking timers need permission to show notifications and alarms. Check Settings, then Menu & Market.
I only see Pantry and Plan as previews
That means your household doesn’t have Plus right now. See Menu & Market Plus above.
